Jean Lotus, a former editor of the Forest Park Review, was back in Chicago last week performing as part of a reunion celebration with Barbie Army, the punk rock band she helped create back in the 1980s.

The band played a lot in small venues across Chicago from 1986 to 1991. But according to a long piece in the Reader last March, Barbie Army did not focus much on recording its music, just playing live. But several of the band’s songs were uploaded to YouTube where they caught fire and the attention of a Berlin-based record label which has now released a full collection under the title “Barbies Don’t Bleed: Retrospective 1986-1990.”

These days Jean lives in Colorado and has become the vital online reporter covering the hemp industry.

The things you don’t know about former colleagues.
