The Park District of Forest Park has announced the annual fireworks display has been canceled.

The announcement made on social media states due “to safety concerns, the weather, and out of respect for the victims of today’s tragic event in Highland Park, Park District of Forest Park staff and the FP Police Department have decided that it would be best to postpone tonight’s event and fireworks show until a later date.”

Forest Park joins a growing list of municipalities and organizations that have canceled their Fourth of July events in response to the Highland Park shooting. They include Oak Park, Arlington Heights, Wilmette, Elk Grove and Waukegan, among others.

In addition, the Chicago White Sox announced that they will play a scheduled Monday night game against the Minnesota Twins, but will cancel the post-game fireworks display and will hold a moment of silence in deference to the victims of the Highland Park shooting.
