For nearly 50 years, Jackie Schulz wrote a weekly column in the Review called “Talk of the Town.” Her infectious giggle and million-dollar smile charmed locals into sharing weddings, vacations, births, promotions, recipes and local events that would fill her column week after week. She had a breezy style that was akin to a warm hug.
A public school teacher, she started at the Review office on Madison Street in 1970 with Bob Haeger, using a typewriter and posting her phone number in every issue. With her four-legged companion, Callahan, she would walk around collecting tips and little life updates from everyone she met.
Jackie is still enjoying her Forest Park home and keeps busy on her back porch with her trusted companion, Barkley, who is walked daily by neighbors and friends. She is still lighting up the room with her sparkling eyes, infectious smile and making the most of her retirement.
