On July 17, locals gathered at the Forest Park Aquatic Center for an evening of swimming and a duck race.

The annual event took place from 6:30 to 9 p.m. and was hosted by the West Suburban Special Recreation Association. Sponsors included Grand Appliance and TV, Jose Barragan Jr. and the Winans family.

The duck race followed a path down the pool’s water slide. The first-place duck won $250, and the owner of the second-place duck took home $100. Third, fourth and fifth-place winners received prize baskets donated by Whole Foods Market of River Forest and O’Sullivan’s Public House.

Proceeds from the duck races will go to WSSRA’s scholarship program, which supports people with disabilities living in the western suburbs.
