On April 10, police were dispatched to Rhythm & Blues Cafe on Madison Street for a robbery. The manager reported that, earlier that day, she got a call from a bartender who said the cash register was empty, missing $350. The manager checked camera footage and saw a man enter the business by barely lifting the glass garage doors in the front of the business, sliding underneath, and stealing money from the register. At the time of the police report, the man had not been identified, though the manager said she thought it was the boyfriend of one of her bartenders.

Retail theft

Police were dispatched to the Dollar Tree on Roosevelt Road April 7 for two suspicious people. One was still in the store, and another was walking on Des Plaines. Police made contact with the man on Des Plaines, who admitted to taking items without paying. The man stole $20 worth of food, hand warmers and hand sanitizer. He was trespassed from the store and charged with retail theft.

Warrant

On April 9, police were dispatched to Thornton’s gas station on Harlem Avenue around 2 a.m. after reports that a man there was threatening to shoot someone. Police made contact with the driver and passenger, neither of whom had any weapons on them. The driver told police he never threatened to shoot anyone, but asked for change for $100, and no one at the gas station would give it to him. The man said he didn’t get in an argument with his passenger, whom he said was his fiancé. The woman told police that she and the man got into a verbal argument. Police reported the woman gave them a false name and date of birth and, when she provided her real info, it revealed she had an active warrant out for her arrest. At the police department, the woman said she was hiding two glass narcotics pipes inside her. She was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, her in-state warrant and obstructing identification.

Domestic battery

Police responded to the 100 block of Lathrop Avenue the evening of April 12 after neighbors called to report yelling from a nearby residence. The woman told police that her ex-boyfriend and father of her child came to her home unannounced and intoxicated, leading to a verbal argument. The woman said the man pushed her before leaving. Police detained the man in the 300 block of Lathrop. He was charged with battery, domestic battery and criminal trespass to a residence.

Possession of cannabis

While on patrol April 11, police saw a driver stopped behind another car while waiting to get on I-290 from Harlem. The driver drove around the car in front of it and ran a red light to enter the expressway. Police pulled over the driver and reported that the car smelled strongly of cannabis and that the driver was argumentative, refusing to exit his car. Police searched the car and found an open bottle of tequila, a cup with tequila in it and a bag of cannabis. The man was charged with possession of adult cannabis, improper lane usage, violating Illinois vehicle code and illegal transportation of alcohol.

These items were obtained from Forest Park Police Department reports dated March 27 through April 5 and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Anyone named in these reports has only been charged with a crime and cases have not yet been adjudicated. We report the race of a suspect only when a serious crime has been committed, the suspect is still at large, and police have provided us with a detailed physical description of the suspect as they seek the public’s help in making an arrest.
