Forest Park got a new waste hauler in April, and the village is now changing the day that residents will get their trash and recycling picked up.
Starting June 10, SBC Waste Solutions will pick up garbage from all Forest Park residents on Wednesdays.
Before SBC Waste Solutions took over waste hauling from Republic Services, residents north of Madison got their garbage picked up on Fridays and those who live south of Madison saw trash trucks on Thursdays.
After SBC Waste Solutions collected garbage for a few weeks from all Forest Park residents on Thursdays, the day to put bins on the curb is changing again.
According to the agenda for the May 26 council meeting — when commissioners unanimously approved a new contract with SBC that changed pickup to Wednesdays — SBC Waste Solutions “quickly learned during week one that our service overlapped with another neighboring municipality and they could not meet the demands of both municipalities satisfactorily. SBC is asking the Village to move garbage, recycling and yard waste pick up to Wednesdays beginning June 10th.”
SBC has agreed to freeze its rates for trash collection for the rest of its contract with the village and to pay for a mailer that informs Forest Park residents about the new trash and recycling pickup day. The village will also advertise the change in its newsletter and on social media.
“It’s a big change switching over to a new contractor, and I think it’s expected that there’s going to be some hiccups,” Commissioner Maria Maxham said at the May 26 council meeting.
Commissioner Michelle Melin-Rogovin thanked the public works department, village staff and residents for their patience in the waste hauler change.
“Thank you all very much for your cooperation and camaraderie as we’ve been making sure that everyone gets the service they need,” Melin-Rogovin said. “SBC has been working hard to transition to serving the village. This is an updated contract to solidify our services that we’ll be receiving from them.”
