From the Forest Park Review, July 28, 1966:
‘They call it “cart-a-motion.” The shopper wheels her groceries to the checkout counter, then stands by as the cart automatically unloads its contents. Unarco Industries’ Folding Carrier Division, manufacturer of the automated carts says the work is done by a wide belt on the bottom of the basket. A motorized mechanism in the checkout counter draws the belt forward and upward, lifting the groceries within reach of the checker. These carts, first put into use in the Chicago area, are at the new White Way Food store at 5th and Walnut in Maywood.”
Evidently, the new technology didn’t last.
