Slain former Proviso East High School athlete remembered at funeral
Funeral services for slain former Proviso East High School alum DaShamone "Spuddy" McCarty took place Friday May 24 at Rock of Ages Church in Maywood. The Dakota College scholarship student was fatally shot inMaywood on May 16, a week after returning home for the summer after his freshman year. McCarty, a student athlete at Proviso and in college, was buried in Forest Home cemetery in Forest Park.
Park District of Forest Park collects sports equipment for Oklahoma tornado victims
The Park District of Forest Park has started a sports equipment drive to replace equipment lost by the Moore Parks Department in the storm, spokesperson Rachell Entler said in an email.

For generations of Forest Park residents, the countdown to summer vacation starts with the All-School Picnic on the third Thursday in May. This year's event takes place at The Park on May 23 from 11 a.m to 2 p.m. Here are eight things you may not know about Forest Park's first summer party that's just for kids.
Forest Park veterans reflect on Memorial Day

"When you get up in the morning on Memorial Day and you go out on the front porch," said Forest Park resident Joe Byrnes, a recipient of a Purple Heart and veteran of two tours in Vietnam, "take a breath of fresh air, just remember what it cost for you to have the freedoms you enjoy and give a little tribute to those who fought and those who died to preserve them."
Forest Park Chamber of Commerce announces remodeling awards

Joan and Marshall Crawford's house at 1302 S. Elgin Ave. is the first house south of Roosevelt Road to win the Forest Park Chamber of Commerce PRIDE award. The awards are given every year to "commercial and residential property owners who have shown pride in Forest Park by making a significant investment in their property," according to the Chamber's website.
Physics award winner honors her 8th-grade math teacher at Forest Park Middle School

When she walks through the Proviso East Navy ROTC building, people call Katie Rueda "Cosmic Ray Girl." The Proviso East High School (PEHS) junior knows a lot about the cosmic particles flying through the universe. She studied them at a Fermi Lab internship last summer with the QuarkNet physics team.
