Congratulations and best wishes for a bright future to newlyweds, Kathy Mackrill and Jerome Walton. Mr. & Mrs. Walton were married recently at Holy Family Church in Chicago and will probably continue to make their home here in Forest Park. They are teachers for the Archdiocese of Chicago. I have it on good authority from a former principal of Mrs.Walton’s that she is “the best teacher there ever was!”
The article in “The Post” about Levonia Lewis’s Cleopatra statue brought to mind the late great Dr. Frank Orland. The Cleopatra statue was a labor of love for that man. He spent years researching, repairing and trying to find a home for the work. No one around here seemed to want it so Orland gave it to the Smithsonian Institute where it is on display today. I sent for several hundred post cards of the statue some years ago; I still have several hundred left. In typical Frank Orland style, there is no mention of him on the obverse of the postcard, the wording is simply “a gift of the Historical Society of Forest Park, Illinois.” If you’d like a postcard, I’ll dig around the house here and see if I can find a few. There are usually a few available at the library book sales.
Not only is Terry Meffley having a birthday this week, she is very much involved in the Good as Gold Golden Retriever rescue organization. Homes are urgently needed for these lovable pets. On March 11,12, and 13 they will hold a fundraiser featuring lots and lots of pizza called “A Tasty Way to Raise Dough;” it will be held at Uno’s Sportmart Plaza, on Roosevelt & Main Streets in Lombard. Call 630-792-1400 and you can get a coupon for free pizza if you go to http://asgoodasgold.org/news.html. These gentle dogs are well behaved and affectionate, just about perfect, as you know if you have ever known one. If you can’t adopt one, you may be able to be a foster “parent” until a permanent home is found. If you can’t make the March 11,12,13 event at Uno’s in Lombard, maybe you can get to the Chicagoland Family Pet Show in Arlington Heights March 18 to 20. Friday 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. On April 2 they’ll be in Wheaton at the Natural Pet Market, 263 Rice Lake Square, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
It’s not too early to get ready for the Easter Eggstravaganza at the Community Center, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Raffles, food, a door prize, balloon twisting, carnival games, a magic show and the Easter Bunny. But space is limited so you must make a reservation. $5 for children,$2 for adults. Call 708-771-7737. Children must be accompanied by an adult. The community Center is at 7640 Jackson.
If you get this paper early Wednesday you just might have time to get over to the Community Center to see Benji. The show starts Wednesday, March 9 at 6:30 p.m., no reservations required, popcorn served.

Last minute news flash!!Delores McCain was at MacArthur’s on Madison Street (Chicago) when who should walk in but BARACK OBAMA!!! Delores whipped out her fancy digital camera, got several pictures of him and dashed back to the paper here so we could all enjoy them. As often happens, technology failed again and nobody could retrieve those pictures.
