Citing “personal reasons,” Forest Park Elementary School District 91 board member Michael O’Connor resigned July 1 from school board.

He announced his resignation as the board gathered for a public strategy session to brainstorm a strategic plan for the 2014-15 school year.

O’Connor, who is a Forest Park police officer, missed a couple of board meetings for health reasons in the past months. He was elected in March 2013. A father of three children enrolled in the local schools, O’Connor helped the district with school safety plans last year.

Superintendent Lou Cavallo said interested citizens who would like to apply to take the vacant spot on the board could present a resume at the district offices, 424 Desplaines Ave., by Wednesday, July 9.

Whoever is selected will serve until spring 2015, at which time voters will decide who will fill the remaining two-year unexpired term.
