Movies at the Park: Alice Through the Looking Glass

Aug. 18, 7:45 p.m., Park District of Forest Park, 7501 W. Harrison St.: 

A movie will be shown on the front lawn in the park each month during the summer season. Make it a family night…grab a blanket and some snacks (concessions will be available for purchase) and enjoy a “night out” at the movies! Movies will begin at dusk between 7:45 and 8:30 p.m.

Donovan Mixon is a guitarist and a former Berklee College of Music Professor. He moved to Chicago in 2010 after an extended sojourn teaching in Italy and Turkey. Ahgottahandleonit is his first novel.

Tales and Tails: A special reading & signing with Elizabeth Berg

Please come to this special event featuring Elizabeth reading from her book of Facebook postings, Make Someone Happy, as well as a sneak preview from her upcoming novel, The Story of Arthur Truluv. In attendance at this reading will be Elizabeth’s partner Bill and their dog, Gabby. There will be refreshments, flowers, and, as a special component in honor of Homer the lion-hearted golden, who recently went on the Big Journey, there will be a tie-in to an animal shelter: you might even find your next best friend!

Proviso District 209 Back to School Bash 

Aug. 18, 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., Proviso Math and Science Academy, 8601 W Roosevelt:

Celebrate the start of the school year with free food, music, games and prizes. There are also free haircuts and health screenings.
