Spelling Bee
Forest Park District 91 schools will host its annual District Spelling Bee at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 17 at the Forest Park Middle School, 925 Beloit Ave. The top three student spellers from grades 3 through 8 from Field-Stevenson School, Grant White School and Forest Park Middle School will compete for a chance to represent Forest Park at the eight regional ISC Scripps Spelling Bee competition Feb. 8.
Mystery Writers of America
Centuries and Sleuth’s bookstore will host its first meeting of 2018 at 12 p.m. Jan. 21 at 7419 Madison St. by celebrating a holiday near and dear to their hearts…poet Edgar Allan Poe’s birthday! Cake will be served. Publicist Dana Kaye will join the crowd and help the group set writing goals by presenting “Work Smarter, Not Harder: 3 Productivity Hacks to Help You Write More Each Day.”
Graphic Novels Group
The Forest Park Library will host its monthly graphic novel discussion group at 7 p.m. Jan. 17 at 7555 Jackson Blvd. Attendees will discuss Batgirl 1: The Batgirl of Burnside by creator Cameron Stewart.
Windows & Mirrors Book Club
The Forest Park Public Library will hold its teen book club at 4 p.m. Jan. 22 at 7555 Jackson Blvd. The group will discuss Gabi: A Girl in Pieces by author Isabel Quintero.
Park District Meeting
The Park District of Forest Park will hold its board meeting at 6 p.m. Jan. 25 at 7501 Harrison St.
Breaded Pork Tenderloin Fundraiser
The First United Church of Christ will host a breaded pork tenderloin dinner with music by ’50s and ’60s cover band The Affects at 5 p.m. Feb. 10 at 1000 Elgin Ave. Tickets are $15 for adults, and $8 for children aged 10 and under. Call 708-420-4413 for ticket information.
Band-A-Thon Fundraiser
The nonprofit Chicago Area Alternative Education League will host its 16th annual Battle of the Bands fundraiser at 5 p.m. Jan. 28 at Healy’s Westside, 7321 Madison St. Attendees’ $40 ticket includes draft beer, soda, wine, appetizers, live music, a raffle, silent auction, door prizes and more. Club Tween After Hours Party
The Forest Park Public Library is hosting a party for those who have aged out of childhood, but haven’t quite reached teenagerdom yet. Join the fun at 6 p.m. Jan. 19 at 7555 Jackson Blvd.
Twisted Cookie Storytime
Join the Forest Park Public Library for a children’s storytime at Twisted Cookie at 10:30 a.m. Jan. 22 at 7401 Madison St. Attendees will also make a small craft.
Board of Education Meeting
Forest Park District 91 schools will hold a Board of Education meeting at 7 p.m. Jan. 18 at 424 Desplaines Ave.
D209 Facility Master Plan
Proviso Township District 209 schools will host a community meeting to discuss its master facility plan at 6 p.m. Jan. 23 at Proviso West High School, 4701 Harrison St. in Hillside. Learn about the future of local high school education, meet the architects and provide feedback.
