Town Hall Meeting on Managed Care

The Progress Center for Independent Living will host a meeting to address questions and concerns that people have regarding their personal healthcare. Speakers will focus on healthcare targeting seniors and people with disabilities that are Medicaid recipients. Attend at 2 p.m. on March 22 at the Oak Park Public Library, 834 W. Lake St.  in Oak Park.

Civics: Understanding and Activating the Illinois State Legislator

Jen Walling, executive director of the Illinois Environmental Council, will explain how to move legislation in Springfield and offer advice on how organizations and individuals can make their voice heard. Walling will review the process for how a bill becomes a law, how to file a witness slip, testify in committee and lobby your legislator. Talk starts at 7 p.m. on March 22 at the Forest Park Public Library, 7555 Jackson Blvd.

Teen Video Game Swap

Trade your gently used video games at 9:40 a.m. on March 17 at the Forest Park Public Library, 7555 Jackson Blvd. The library will also accept donated games March 12- 16. 

Mystery Discussion Group

Talk with other mystery-minded readers about Blood Trails, a book about a serial killer police officer. Meeting starts at 2 p.m. on March 17 at Centuries & Sleuths Bookstore, 7419 W. Madison St.

Baby Shower

The Animal Care League of Oak Park will host its 13th annual Baby Shower at 11 a.m. on March 18 at 1003 Garfield Ave., in preparation for the upcoming puppy, kitten and bunny season. Drop off donations and supplies, sign up to foster a pet or send a gift to the facility through www.animalcareleague.org/2018-baby-shower.html.

Writing Commercial Fiction with Jeffery Deaver

With more than 50 million books sold in 150 countries, author Jeffrey Deaver is the authority on writing bestselling fiction. Sponsored by Midwest Writers of America and Concordia University Chicago, this three-hour workshop will help you develop the tools you need to craft compelling commercial fiction and navigate the publication process. Deaver will present at 1 p.m. on March 18 at the Koehneke Community Center, 7400 Augusta St. in River Forest. Concordia University students attend free with reservation.
