Barktoberfest

Sample German fare, take your chance at a raffle, bid in a live auction and meet some of Forest Park’s neediest hounds at the Animal Care League’s sixth annual “Barktoberfest,” from 7 to 11 p.m. on Oct. 20 at Fitzgerald’s Side Bar, 6615 W. Roosevelt Rd. in Berwyn. Tickets $65 in advance; $75 at the door. Purchase tickets online at animalcareleague.org or in-person at the Animal Care League shelter, 1011 Garfield in Oak Park. Ticket includes open bar and live music.

Trunk or Treat in the Park

Attend the Park District of Forest Park’s annual “Trunk or Treat in the Park,” where participants park their cars in the Park District’s lot and open their trunk to reveal secret treats and decorations for trick or treaters. Register your car online at pdofp.org. Fun runs from 2 to 4 p.m. on Oct. 27 at 7501 Harrison.

McAdam Pumpkin Party

It’s time again for the annual McAdam Nursery and Garden Center’s Pumpkin Party, from 12 to 3 p.m. on Oct. 20 at 2001 Desplaines Ave. Expect hay rides, face painting, pumpin painting and more.

Cindy Lyons Health Fair

The Howard Mohr Community Center will hold the annual Cindy Lyons Health Fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 24 at 7640 Jackson Blvd. Learn about village services—all of the village of Forest Park departments will be on hand to answer any question—and receive information and free health screenings. Mystery Trip

Join officials from the Howard Mohr Community Center for a mystery trip from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 31. “A day that promises to be a treat for all on board,” is the only clue Community Center officials are revealing before the big day. Let officials from the Forest Park Public Library teach you how to make money selling your old stuff on Amazon and eBay from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 25 at 7555 Jackson Blvd.

Second Annual Cemetery Scavenger Hunt

Join officials from the Historical Society of Forest Park for a scavenger hunt in Forest Home Cemetery. The group offers two options—an easier one, for children, families and newcomers to Forest Home, along with a more difficult scavenger hunt for those who already know Forest Home well. Take a picture of each item, show the photo to Historical Society officials and, once you’re done, receive a prize. Devil in the White City: Myth and Mystery

Historian Adam Selzer will give a talk about H.H. Holmes, commonly known as “America’s first serial killer,” and how researcher separate fact from historical fiction. Talk runs from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 18 at the Forest Park Public Library, 7555 Jackson Blvd.

Join officials from the Howard Mohr Community Center in traveling to The Club Arcada for the Vito Zatto Show on Oct. 18, a show which includes stand-up comedy and celebrity impersonations. Hauntin’ Halloween DJ Dance Party

Third and fifth graders are invited to a “fab-boo-lous” DJ dance party from 7 to 9 p.m. on Oct. 26 at the Park District of Forest Park, 7501 Harrison. Prizes will be awarded to everyone at the door, and winners of a best costume contest will receive something extra special. Tickets $5.
