Police were called to the Blue Line Inc. Store at 711 Desplaines Ave. on Feb. 10 at 12:01 p.m. when a man attempted to steal a package of donuts. According to the cashier, he brought the donuts to the counter and handed them and a wad of money to the cashier. “How much?” asked the suspect. The cashier said the donuts cost $1.65. “That’s too much,” replied the suspect, who took the donuts and placed them in his pocket. The cashier somehow retrieved the donuts, but the suspect jumped the counter to take his money back. He then ran up to the platform and boarded a CTA car. He was apprehended and charged with disorderly conduct.

Vacant house invaded

Trespassing was reported on the 7400 block of Warren Street on Feb. 11 at 12:13 p.m. A residence, which had recently been rehabbed and is currently on the market, had been occupied sometime between Feb. 7 and Feb. 11. The owner said someone gained entrance through a basement window, tracked mud on the carpeting and hardwood floor, and left numerous cigar wrappings and tobacco in the home. According to the police report, “the offender(s) made a mess of the bathroom” and turned the heat up to over 90 degrees.

Homeless and hungry

A man on the 8600 block of Roosevelt Road was issued a village ordinance violation on Feb. 12 at 9:22 a.m. for walking in traffic and soliciting funds. He was holding a cardboard sign that read “Homeless and Hungry. Anything you give will help. Thank you & God bless.”

Air fryer ‘returned’

Police were called to Walmart, 1300 Desplaines Ave. on Feb. 12 at 3:11 p.m. when a woman successfully returned an air fryer for a store credit of $196.90. However, surveillance video showed she entered the store empty-handed, grabbed the fryer from a shelf in the store, and brought it to the customer service station for a refund. Since she did not have a receipt, she provided her driver’s license instead. On her way out of the store, Walmart employees attempted to speak to her and escort her to the loss prevention office, but she did not comply. “Call the police if you want,” she said. “They have my ID information there anyway.” She got into her white Jeep and drove east on Roosevelt Road.

These items were obtained from police reports filed by the Forest Park Police Department, Feb. 10-14, and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Unless otherwise indicated, anybody named in these reports has only been charged with a crime. These cases have not been adjudicated.
