Late-season rakers have a little more time to shift their fallen leaves from their yard to the curb after the village announced it would extend its free leaf collection service through Dec. 16.

The Forest Park Public Works Department had initially planned to stop collecting leaves on Dec. 1, but “due to the late start to the season this year,” the service was extended, according to an electronic newsletter distributed by the village.

Leaves should be raked into the street gutters and will be collected based on the village’s regular street sweeping schedule, which can be found online at forestpark.net. Residents are asked to rake the leaves curbside one day before they are scheduled to be collected.
