In early 1956, the year of the village’s centennial birthday, people in town took a leap back in time by growing beards and mustaches, donning dresses from the previous century, tying bows around their necks and commuting now and again in horse and carriages throughout town.

This photo features, from the far left: Dr. Henry Desens, one of the chairmen of the centennial celebration; Howard F. Sammon, president of Forest Park National Bank and Chamber of Commerce; Gottlieb Scwab, a pioneer businessman; and Henry J. Mohr, former mayor.

The photo was taken in front of the A.W. Kistenbroker mansion on Desplaines Avenue.
