Field-Stevenson 4th graders hosted a “State Fair” on Tuesday, December 18th to share their research exhibits. Students presented what they learned about the geography of the U.S. including state capitals, flags, wildlife, fun facts, unique state history, and more to parents and invited guests.
Students at Field-Stevenson enjoyed learning about the diverse professional backgrounds of the Real Men Read volunteers and appreciated having these male role models read to them. Thanks to all of our Real Men Readers for making an impact and to Dr. Brunson for organizing our volunteers!

Historical Society event compares Roots and 12 Years a Slave
Lawrence Broughton, director of the Historical Society of Forest Park, will speak about Roots and 12 Years a Slave at Centuries and Sleuths bookshop on Wednesday, Feb. 26. His talk will discuss Hollywood’s depiction of slavery in America. Broughton, a retired history teacher at Proviso East High School, is a former commissioner of the Illinois Amistad Commission, a group that promotes education and awareness of slavery and the African slave trade in Illinois schools.
